Roof construction

The construction of the roof should be regarded as serious as the construction of the foundation or the house itself. Each step must be carried out with precision, must be done with the help of a specialist to avoid possible construction errors and to ensure the use of quality materials, that are resistant to rain, snow or wind.

In case you`d like to do such a job yourself, you should know exactly:

how to build a roof;

– the construction stages;

– how to take measurements to find out the quantities of the necessary materials;

– what materials are necessary;

– how to install the frame;

-how to install the anti-condensation foil;

– how to install the roof covering.

In general, a roof is composed of: framing, covering and auxiliary elements.

At first, you should build the structure of the roof, which is made of:

– Props (pillars of various sizes that will support the pliers);

– Purlin (a piece made of wood or metal used to support the rafters). This can be a ridge purlin – for the top or a sill purlin – for the edges);

– Rafters (make the skeleton of the roof, the roof covering will be mounted on them);

– Pliers (horizontal elements connecting the props, making the structure more rigid);

– Blooms (the link between the props and the board).

Materials and products for wood framing :

– Planks of resinous wood;

– Pine spars;

– Pine rafters with round section;

– Pine boards;

– Cement mortar;

– Nails;

– Clips;

– Zinc wire;

– Screws;

– Bolts;

– Monolithic reinforced concrete;

– Reinforced prefabricated concrete.

At the base of the roof there is the floor, which can be in the form of reinforced concrete slab, wooden floor or metal structure. If we choose the “chairs” frame, the props should be fixed on it using the blooms. There are two ways to do this: by connecting to steel “moustaches” or by connecting to ball screws embedded in the slabs.

Once the purlins have been fixed, the props can be fixed as well. In order to follow the logical structure, the roof ridge will be built, then, the rafters will be fixed, supporting the covering and the other layers of the roof.

You also have to take into consideration the thermal insulation. To avoid heat loss, thermal insulation is mandatory, protecting the interior from cold or excessive heat from the outside. A well-designed roof will protect the construction also from water, stopping the possible infiltration that might occur in a faulty system.

The next step is to purchase the cover materials. Now you can get started. You need to know that you have a wide range of covers to choose from:

Standing seam panels – have a life span of 40-50 years and it is very light (about 5kg / m²) but it isn`t a very good sound and thermal insulation material;

Tile roofing sheets- ceramic tile is the most resistant (80-100 years); it has excellent sound and thermal insulation properties, it looks very good, but it is very heavy (approx. 40kg / m²) and difficult to mount. The concrete tile also has a very high resistance in time (80-100 years), but it is heavier than the ceramic one (about 46 kg / m²). Metal tile in large or small panels is another option; it is very light (5-7kg / m²).

Bituminous shingle – has a lifetime of 30-40 years; it is a very good sound and thermal insulator, it weights approx. 9kg / m²;

Slate slabs – made of volcanic ash or clay. It does not degrade and has aesthetic and insulation properties;

Polycarbonate slabs and so on.

Apart from the roof structure or the covering, accessories are also needed. Here are the accessories you need to fluidize water:

– ditch;

– drain pipe;

– drain pipe bracelet;

– ditch cover;

– external cornering;

– internal cornering;

– drain pipe elbow;

– exhaust elements;

– joint piece for ditch and gasket;

– intermediate extension;

– double jacketed extension;

– ditch pipe junction;

– ditch stabilizer;

– hook;

– applied hook;

– collecting hopper;

– Y branch;

– exhaust derivation;

– sewage tubulature.

Each of the above elements helps to build a quality roof that lasts over time and provides permanent protection to the building so you can enjoy a comfortable and carefree living.
